Add to this the superior weight gain and feed conversion
together with an enormous rib eye muscle area and the picture becomes
clear, the only terminal sire to use is a PIEDMONTESE.
In a 1990’s trial conducted at
ICM’S PEECHELBA FEEDLOT, a group of 22 F1 mixed sex weaners were fed for
95 days and then slaughtered at ICM’S abattoir, the resultant carcass
assessment of a random selection of 10 carcasses is tabled. When these
weaners entered the feedlot they had an estimated value of $300 ($1 per
KG). At the time of slaughter the live weight value of the cattle was
$1.25, however, the consignment was sold over the hook HSCW for $2.35.
With a 62% dressing percentage this came back at a live weight equivalent
of $1.43 KG, an 18 cents per KG premium. A HUGE 14.4% in EXTRA $’s to the
grower!
