NZ Simmental
Terminal
Index
Profit-driver importance (%) for breeding:
This blue bar-graph
shows the relative importance of the underlying genetic profit-drivers for the
commercial terminal crossing of Simmentals.
This reflects both the economic effect of changing each profit-driver
and the amount of opportunity there is to genetically change them. Joining is to British breed cows where there
is only a modest concern about calving difficulty. Steers are finished at pasture to produce a 300 kg carcase at 15
months. All progeny are intended for
slaughter.
